Picks for the Super Bowl LV – who is this year’s favorite?

With the battle over who will win the right to represent the NFC and AFC at the Super Bowl, focus now moves onto the picks and who is favoured to win. This is no doubt one of the most important aspects to betting on the outcome of any sports event, even more so when wagering on the Super Bowl.

What is important to understand is picks are a key component used to help determine not only the team favoured to win but the most likely outcome. They are based on a substantial amount of information collected during the current season but also past seasons. Likewise, they take into consideration past game results between the two competing teams, player statistics, field conditions, anticipated weather conditions, and a multitude of others.

Therefore, to place an articulated bet on the Super Bowl, these need to be considered. While we appreciate an element towards the unknown, putting personal preferences ahead of expert analysis should be avoided.

Most probable winners by experts

Like previous Super Bowls, fans are evenly split on who they are predicting to win on Sunday, with 54% in favour of the Chiefs and 46% favouring the Buccaneers. While this indicates a deep divide, and often based on divisional loyalties, the question is whether the exerts agree and who they predict will be the probable winners.

There is clearly a consensus amongst experts that the Chiefs and Buccaneers are evenly paired in terms of their offensive and defensive lines. However, this is a game featuring two of the best quarterbacks in the league. On the one hand, you have Brady, who is considered the greatest of all time. On the other, you have Mahomes, who, at 25, is playing his second Super Bowl and expected to be this year’s MVP.

Considering Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes statistically in 2020 produced similar results, experts favour the younger Mahomes over the more experienced Brady, and that is saying something. The problem for experts is that both teams have more strengths than weaknesses, both have aggressive offensive-minded coaches, and both have favourable stats.

That said, there are several issues surrounding the Chiefs offensive line due to their being without their starting tackles. While experts have factored that in, they remain confident in the Chief’s offensive line abilities.

As for Tampa Bay, wide receiver Antonio Brown remains questionable, as does Antoine Winfield, which creates Tampa issues. However, while it is felt that this will be a closely fought battle, experts predict Kansas City to prevail and earn back-to-back Super Bowl Championships.

Computer picks

One of the toughest tasks in sports betting is choosing a winner based on the spread. It is easy to get wrapped up in expert predictions or rely on the information they provide to determine a favourite. However, more and more punters are relying on computer picks to provide unbiased predictions that are statistically based.

While sports analysts predict Kansas City to win, computer-generated picks show Tampa Bay as the front runner. So why are the two on opposite ends of the spectrum – simple – experts rely on the analysing of information with a human element, while computer-generated picks focus solely on statistical data that is formulated using proven algorithms.

That has resulted in computer picks assigning a +3 spread advantage and a -3 spread for the Chiefs.

Animals know it best – Super Bowl predictions for 2021

It is not uncommon in the lead up to the Super Bowl to see media outlets publishing animal predictions. After all, this is a sport that many take seriously and often lose sight of the sports entertainment value. Therefore, to include some entertainment value, we decided to pay homage to a few of the best Super Bowl 2021 animal tips and predictions.

  • A tradition at the MOTE Marine Aquarium is to call upon Buffet the manatee to predict the Super Bowl Champions. A favourite amongst the locals, Buffet gave his nod to the Bucc’s’, while friend Hugh favoured the Chiefs.
  • Not to be outdone by sea mammals, the Dallas Zoo’s lion cubs, Izwi, Ilola and Tadala, wandered their pen before choosing the Chief’s as this year’s Super Bowl Champion.
  • Joining the animal predictions, Zoo Montana’s Sid the Wolverine sniffed out both teams before choosing the Tampa Bay Bucc’s as Champions.

While this is for fun, no one can argue that some of these furry friends have been right in the past. Buffet has a remarkable ability to home in on the winning team, and with an 80% success rate, his advice may pay off!

Underdogs on the rise – who has got a chance?

This year, the Super Bowl will feature some familiar faces, and many of those are being seen as the underdogs. Surprisingly, this includes five-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The question is, why is such a decorated quarterback, ranked the best of all time, being seen as the underdog. The big reason is at 43, Brady is seen at the end of his career, and when pitted against the equally talented and younger Mahomes, Brady gets the distinction of being the underdog.

Considering the Buccaneer’s had gone 14 years without making the playoffs, it is no wonder why they come in behind the Chiefs. The problem is, with a team packed with seasoned veterans, the Bucc’s had an impressive 11-5 season. In comparison to the 14-2 season for the Chiefs, the Bucc’s have a chance, albeit a small one at best.

Super Bowl LV Odds

This year, the odds are closer than we have seen in past Super Bowls, and for punters, that’s bad news. It makes placing value bets a lot more challenging, especially when only 3.5 points separate the point spread.

Thoroughly analysis of the odds is a major undertaking that pits team against team and stat against stat. The bottom line is, during the regular and postseason, the Chiefs outperformed the Bucc’s across the board. They ran for 508 more yards and, more importantly, won 14 out of 16 games.

Therefore, it is a pretty straightforward call for oddsmakers when looking at the stats. However, oddsmakers seem focused on the Bucc’s older roaster and not on the fact their stats do not differ much from the Chiefs. The argument to throwing support behind the Bucc’s, with Brady’s record, could be a calculated and profitable value bet to make.

Super Bowl Winners (2015 – 2020)

It is not uncommon to look at past Super Bowl winners for insight into how this year’s game may unfold. While each year is different, checking stats from previous years and comparing them to the final outcome can be advantageous. Therefore, considering this, we have included the results from the last six Super Bowls.

Fans want to know: Who will win the Super Bowl in 2021?

Predicting who will win the Super Bowl is challenging under any circumstances, but with two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, it makes it that much harder. On the one hand, you have Tom Brady leading the Bucc’s to a 31-26 victory over the Packers. This is a game where history is in the making as Brady will be making his tenth Super Bowl appearance. If successful, he will win his seventh Super Bowl championship, a feat many expect unlikely but possible.

On the other, you have Patrick Mahomes, who led the Chiefs to a 38-24 victory over the Bills to earn the Chiefs their second back-to-back Super Bowl appearance. This accomplishment has not been achieved since 2003/204 when Brady took the Patriots to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, and subsequently, back-to-back wins.

While no one can dispute the importance Brady and Mahomes play, the supporting cast is as valuable, and one doesn’t succeed without the other. For Brady, that includes Leonard Fournette, Chris Godwin, Ronald Jones II, Rob Gronkowski, and Mike Evans. For Mahomes, his supporting cast includes Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, Tyrann Mathieu, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

Ultimately, Kansas City are the front runners, and while Mahomes took a nasty hit to the head in the divisional playoffs, there are no lingering effects. Mahomes is a skilled QB who knows how to make plays and keep things focused. Make no mistake, Brady is going to a tough competitor, but taking everything into consideration, this is going to a battle of the toughest, and at this stage, neither team is a sure-fire bet.
